Kristine Ballard is a visual artist, art educator and Australian colourist. The origin of Kristine’s love for energetic colour began as a child growing up in the backyard beneath a stark Australian sun. This passion for moody hues, is the driving force behind her artistic practice. Dissolving landscapes and objects float and morph in the style she labels as ‘fragmatism’.
Born in Sydney, Kristine spent her childhood on the Central Coast and attained a Bachelor of Design at the University of Newcastle. Kristine built her Graphic Design career in Sydney working and managing studios in many reputable design agencies while establishing a partnership creating the Northshore School of Art in Mosman in the year 2000. She created the marketing, design and yearly program there for 12 years as well as teaching adults and children and conducting workshops and art functions.
In 2007 Kristine took the leap to pursue her fine art career full time.
In order to create such an ‘artist’s life’ however, one must do many things to maintain an existence. Teaching fine art skills, private art tuition, art parties, and art corporate functions all help provide Kristine some room to expand her own art practice.
“Just having the time, or the head space to let your ideas brew is a luxury. Being able to get out observe, embrace and translate the world is a vital element to my art making process.”
Kristine has travelled extensively throughout many parts of the world, painting in a variety of locations including Spain, France the United States and Fiji.
She has completed many residencies throughout the world including:
– Art Students League of New York
– Scuola Di Grafica, Venice
– Koro Sun, SavuSavu Fiji
– Monsalvat, Melbourne, Australia
In 2015 Kristine will return to Venice at the time of the Internationale Bienalle and back to Fiji in 2016 where she will complete a 2 month residency and offer a full week workshop.
Kristine’s work has been hung in many shows throughout Australia. She has won numerous awards and notable mentions. Her pieces have also been exhibited in New York, France and Fiji.
Kristine works out of home studio in Sydney’s Inner West:
She continues to provide fine art and design tuition for students, while working on her own art practice. She is also a Design and Marketing Manager and runs a Design Studio in Sydney.
